NEW BUSINESS: 1) Development of Mission Board/Team which would handle the planning of mission trips has been suggested. Would be great to have, since St. Peter’s has a strong commitment to mission work. Discussion. Would our Constitution have to change? Would the Team be under the umbrella of Extended Ministries? Will be vision be consistent? Pastor mentioned that constitution wouldn’t have to change if Mission Team were put under Extended Ministries. What is the easiest way to do this? Motion made to create a Mission Board. Motion seconded. Questions continue: Are there people willing to serve on this team? How would creation of this Board affect Dottie’s involvement? Shouldn’t change that because finances would still go through business management. Would team be specifically for work in Guatemala? Bottom line; it would be for all Mission Work. Would it be advisory or hands on? How would it affect our work team? All is mission, both home and away. Motion carried. 2) Submission, there is a Constitution which sorely needs to be updated. Will probably take a Team or Task Force to look at the Constitution and start the process of updating. In current Constitution it states that each time a board meets, minutes should be taken of the meeting. Those minutes should be submitted to the office. This would help to create a file so someone new would have a clue regarding what the board has done. Office will take care of typing minutes. Youth has been taking minutes for 3 months, Education has been for years. Discussion. This would be helpful. Goal for next month would be to turn in minutes and keep it an ongoing procedure. Discussion regarding Task Force for updating the Constitution. Constitution was last updated in 2002. Motion made to create Task Force to look at update Constitution. Motion seconded. Two volunteers to serve on Task Force; Dottie Scharber and Reine Lemke. Motion modified to include update should reflect what we actually do. Suggestion made, would be helpful to have some past presidents serve on Task Force. Motion carried. 3) Update on Ellie – she is continuing to recover at home. Most recent treatment seems to have taken. Spirit is good, but it has been tough. Ask that we continue to keep her in prayer. 4) Council will be installed at both services on 2/17.
Pastor Craig: Handouts provided regarding “Transforming Church”. Broke in to small groups and discussed questions on handout regarding St. Peter’s CODE. Important to look at our history. Pastor read some of the history from the 100th Anniversary of St. Peter’s. Pastor asked for help from the small groups in developing the code of St. Peter’s. In order to be ‘diakonia’ (deacon), need to know family history. Remember that we go beyond ourselves. Following the small group discussion; what is our “CODE” –personality , how we do things. If we want to move ahead, follow the code; be successful. Who are we? – Friendly, welcoming, spirit filled, enjoy celebration, real (not high or low), genuine, emphasis on family & youth, openness, supportive, mission/ministry involvement. As we define CODE, it will help us to proceed into the future. Who we are and where we’re going. Encouraged to ask other. Who are some of the heroes of St. Peter’s? Martin Sorenson, Bill Lund, Tena Larson, Ordell Witte, Whitey Aus.
Meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer.
Respectfully submitted, Laura Gilligan
