History of St. Peter's
St. Peter’s was founded by Danish immigrants who came together to worship the Lord, gather at the table for communion, and share community with one another. They first gathered in their homes in the summer of 1893. By November, 28 members signed the charter to found St. Peter’s Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. Services met on 3rd St. in the building that is now used by the Northfield Arts Guild.
St. Peter’s family grew steadily. In November of 1958, ground was broken for a new church building on Sumner St. St. Peter’s has been at home on Sumner St. since 1963. Our history is rich with stories of people serving God in all kinds of different ways.
From a small church of Danish immigrants to the flourishing, diverse community St. Peter’s is today, God has generously blessed this community. St. Peter’s is a church with deep roots that continues to grow in the Lord. Come make history with us!
