Now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation! Now we are in the storm, the boat almost swamped; but Jesus is here now, and when we call him he will calm the storm. Even the wind and waves listen to him as they would to their creator. We also listen to him and are called to believe in the power of God’s word in him, a power greater than all that we fear. About the music this Sunday:

We have some "heavy Bach" today for Prelude and Postlude. The prelude is the great "Triple Fugue" from Bach's organ catechism, called St. Anne because of its similarity in the first subject to the opening phrase of the hymn tune ST. ANNE (oft used with "O God, Our Help in Ages Past"). The first fugue is slower moving; the second more lively; the third like a big dance. Some people this the three sections resemble God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The postlude is an earlier work by J. S. Bach called the "Cathedral" Prelude and Fugue played by teenager Silas Strich from New York State. Silas, age 15, has completed piano camp at St. Olaf this past week and is enrolled in the upcoming Pipe Organ Encounter for teenagers at Shattuck-St. Mary's.
